BHRC Chair speaks at International Women’s Day Conference 2016

On Saturday 27 February 2016, Kirsty Brimelow QC, BHRC Chair, spoke at the International Women’s Day Conference 2016 in Paris to 3,000 – 4,000 delegates organised by the National Council of Resistance of Iran. The title of the conference was Pledge for Parity: Women United Against Islamic Fundamentalism.

Kirsty spoke of the persecution of women in Iran and about the discriminatory laws rooted in an extremist Islam. She also spoke about the work that BHRC has carried out in condemnation of the repeated attacks and medical siege against Iranian residents at Camp Liberty in Iraq. She called for the UN Human Rights Council to recognise Camp Liberty as a refugee camp.

She was joined on the panel by a range of politicians, academics, prominent journalists, and women’s rights activists from across 26 countries and four continents.
