Botswana: BHRC sends a letter of concern about the case of barrister Gordon Bennett

The Bar Human Rights Committee of England and Wales (“BHRC”) has today, 20th September, sent a letter to the President of the Republic of Botswana expressing concern about the case of Mr. Gordon Bennett, a barrister instructed to act on behalf of the Bushmen of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR). Mr. Bennett was accused of making a political speech to his clients and subsequently prevented from returning to Botswana to represent them after his name was placed on a so called ‘visa list’. The BHRC calls for an urgent investigation into this case and urges the authorities to respect Mr. Bennett’s right to practice his profession in Botswana without interference or intimidation of any kind.
